Privacy policy.
The short version: the Hed app never sends your voice or your dictations anywhere, and sends nothing about you unless you write to us from it. This website keeps only what you give it, to do what you asked.
This page covers the Hed app for Mac and this website, myhed.me: what each one collects, who else handles it, how long it's kept, and how to have it deleted.
Who's responsible
Hed is made by Ilya Krasnov, an independent developer in Israel, who is responsible for the data on this page (the "controller", in GDPR terms). For anything about your data, write to hello@myhed.me.
The Hed app
- Your voice and your words stay on your Mac. Hed records, transcribes and formats on your Mac's own chip. Your dictations, recordings and transcripts are files in Hed's folder on your Mac. They're never uploaded, and nobody else, us included, can see them. Hed keeps the audio of each dictation for 7 days, so you can play it back or transcribe it again, then deletes it; you can change that or turn it off in Settings › More options.
- No account, no analytics, no tracking. Hed has no sign-in and doesn't report how you use it.
- Model downloads. The first time you open it, Hed downloads its speech model (OpenAI's Whisper) and its formatting model (Qwen) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). Like any website, Hugging Face sees your IP address while the download runs. Nothing about you or your voice is sent. After that, Hed works offline.
- Your license. Hed checks your license key on your Mac, without going online. The key holds your name, email address and order number, so Hed can show who it's licensed to; it's kept in Hed's folder on your Mac. The free trial is counted on your Mac too.
- Mac permissions. Hed asks macOS for the microphone, to hear you, and for Accessibility, to type where your cursor is. It uses them for that and nothing else.
- Updates. Once a day Hed asks myhed.me whether there's a newer version, by downloading a small public file (the update feed). The request carries nothing about you, your Mac or how you use Hed; like any website, myhed.me sees your IP address for the request, and doesn't keep it. When there's a new version, Hed shows what's new and asks before downloading and installing it, from myhed.me.
- Feedback. Hed never sends feedback by itself. If you write to us in Send Feedback and press Send, it sends what you wrote, the name and email you typed (both optional), whether we may quote you, and the version numbers of Hed and macOS to myhed.me. Nothing else, and none of your dictations.
- Links. Buying Hed and a few help links open in your web browser. From there, the rules for this website below apply.
This website
- No cookies, no trackers. The pages load nothing from anyone else.
- Visit counts. The site counts visits, waitlist sign-ups, purchases, downloads and updates per day, with where they came from: the website that linked here, or a tag in the link (like ?via=newsletter). These are plain numbers. No IP address, cookie or anything else that could tell one visitor from another is kept.
- The waitlist. If you join, we keep your email address and the day you joined, and use them only to email you about Hed: the launch, and now and then news about Hed. We never sell your address.
- Keeping the site safe. To stop the sign-up form and feedback being flooded, your IP address is used to count attempts for one minute. It isn't stored.
- Buying Hed. Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), which sells Hed to you as the merchant of record: Polar takes your payment and billing details, handles tax and sends your receipt, under its own privacy policy. We never see your card. Polar sends us your name, email address, order number and what you bought; we keep them with your license key, so we can send the key again if you lose it, and handle refunds.
- Feedback from the app. We keep what you sent, with the day it arrived, to read it, answer it if you gave an email address, and improve Hed. If you ticked "myhed.me may quote this", we may show your message on this site with the name you gave, and only then. Ask and we'll take it down.
- Email. Mail to hello@myhed.me is forwarded by Cloudflare to a Gmail inbox, where we read and answer it.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare runs this website, keeps the waitlist, orders and feedback in a database in Europe, and forwards email.
- Polar takes payments, handles tax and sends receipts.
- Google hosts the inbox behind hello@myhed.me.
- Hugging Face serves the app's model downloads.
- Before the launch email goes out, the service that sends it will be named here. It will get your address only to deliver the email.
We don't share your data with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
How long it's kept
- Waitlist addresses: until you ask to come off the list, or until Hed no longer needs a waitlist.
- Orders and license keys: for as long as Hed is sold, so you can always get your key back.
- Emails to hello@myhed.me and feedback from the app: as long as they're useful for helping you and improving Hed. A quote on this site stays until you ask us to take it down.
- Visit counts: they're only numbers, so they're kept.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, get a copy, or object to how it's used. Write to hello@myhed.me from the address in question and we'll answer within 30 days. If we delete an order's record we can't resend that license key, but the key keeps working.
If you're not happy with the answer, you can complain to your data protection authority: in Israel, the Privacy Protection Authority; in the EU or UK, the one where you live.
Why we're allowed to
For readers in the EU and UK, the legal bases are: your consent for the waitlist and for quoting your feedback (withdraw it any time by writing to us), the purchase for orders and license keys, and a legitimate interest in reading and answering the feedback you send, keeping the site safe and knowing which links bring people here, for the sign-up limit and the visit counts.
Children
Hed isn't made for children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16. If you think a child has joined the waitlist, write to us and we'll delete the address.
Changes
When this page changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects what we do with your waitlist address or your order, we'll email you before it takes effect.
